Description

Shoulder yoke, wooden, hand-carved. The yoke is worn, but in good condition, no cracks. The holes for the ropes at either end are intact, and there's one spot of red paint on the right side near the hole. A yoke like this one would be used for manually hauling small loads such as buckets of water for home or farm use. Worn on the shoulder, two ropes would be attached to the ends of the yoke, with a hook on the end of each rope to fasten to the load. The donor is unknown, but a note written directly on the wood of the interior says "Yoke made 50 years ago by John Frederick of Gig Harbor, WA." The yoke measures 35 1/4 inches long end to end, and 5 3/4 inches wide at the neck indent. It stands 2 3/4 inches tall at the indent as well.
