Pack saddle for a horse or mule, made of wood with leather fittings and iron rings. Wood is worn smooth, well used but in good condition overall. According to the donor, this saddle was used by John Monro when he and his family came to Vancouver, WA, in 1842, from York Factory, Manitoba, Canada. David Munro was an Hudson Bay Company employee and father of Ellen Munro Flett, who married John Flett, and it is likely that the original donor simply mixed up the first names. It is unclear whether the saddle was actually used by John Flett or David Munro, since they both arrived at the Fort within a year of each other, but the saddle came across the Rocky Mountains to the Fort Nisqually area with the Red River Settlers.
