A leather trunk, valise, or suitcase, used by Dr. William Fraser Tolmie and bearing his initials "W.F. Tolmie" on the front leather flap above the brass latch and keyhole. A strip of leather riveted along the back of the trunk forms the hinge, now broken, side handles are intact, however, and measure 9 inches long and 1 3/4 inches wide. Missing one leather strap on front, interior in fairly good condition, lined with narrow striped blue and white ticking fabric. Inside the lid there is a center divider that folds down, with a red leather pocket attached; 9 1/2 inches long by 6 1/2 inches, closed by a flap and two straps. Also, red cotton twill tape is tacked down across the underside of the divider in a diamond pattern. On the bottom of the case is a paper label glued to lining that reads: "Manufactory, Smiths Buildings, Leadenhall Street. Wine & Beer Cases of All Sizes" in the upper corners, but the main text reads: "Henry Pound & Son, Trunk, Chest, Box and Packing Case Manufacturers. Cases Lined with Tin, Zinc, & Copper, 81 & 82 Leadenhall Street, Three doors from Cree Church, London." For more information about the manufacturer, see Notes. "540" is written in white on the back hinge line. Trunk measures 23 3/4 inches wide across the front, 12 1/4 inches along the side, and stands 12 7/8 inches tall.Dimensions
