Souvenir canoe paddle, one side decorated with a painting of Native American figures out on a canoe hunting a sea creature. It also has the words ""Chief" Howeattle, Queets, Wash." and "Presented to Arthur A. Cook on Sunday, May 20, 1934". At the time Arthur Cook was the Secretary of the Young Man's Business Club, the group behind the Point Defiance restoration of Fort Nisqually in the 1930s. It was given to Mr.Cook in 1934 as a commemorative gift in recognition of his work in preserving the history of Fort Nisqually. The paddle is similar in style to those used by Salish tribes on Puget Sound, with separate handle piece and pointed tip. The paddle appears to be made of oak, and the other side is unadorned. Measures 51 inches long, 4 3/4 inches wide at widest part of blade, and 2 inches wide at largest part of the handle.
