Description

Certificate or letter of appreciation to Letitia Work (later Huggins) by the Reverend and Mrs. Stains, dated Sept. 16, 1851. The letter reads "Presented to Letitia Work by her friends Mr. & Mrs. Staines in token of their appreciation of the kind manner in which she has always assisted in the needlework for the children who were her companions in Victoria School, Sept 16th 1851". The paper was originally folded in half and then in thirds, forming it's own envelope, and on what would have been the outside is the inscription "Certificate from the Revd and Mrs. Staines, Sept. 16th, 1851. The whole sheet of paper measures 10 inches wide by 8 inches tall. Victoria School refers to the boarding school the Staines set up for the children of the Hudson Bay Company officers at Fort Victoria, British Columbia.
