A history of Steilacoom located in the southeastern shores of Washington. The story of how Fort Steilacoom was developed and founded in 1851 by Captain Lafeyette Balch. Steilacoom city was founded by John B. Chapman later the same year, just south of the fort. Settlers were arriving by 1854.
