The Bigamist

Name/Title

The Bigamist

Description

20th-c. mixed media box construction showing a man named Miguel with two of his four wives. The piece includes a brief narrative caption about Miguel: "Miguel was the envy of all the men in the village of San Vicente in the Colombian lowlands. Everyone called him Miguel El Grande because he had four wives who so adored him that they placed him on a pedestal and catered to his every desire. When asked for the secret of his success, he replied with great modesty: "I love them all but I make certain that they don't catch me flirting with other women." Asked if he ever flirted with other women, he smiled and replied: "Didn't I tell you that I love them all?" Little wonder that he was known as Miguel El Grande throughout his short but ecstatic life!"
