These two plaster casts depict two unknown Apostles from the South Transept Portal of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Amiens, France. The cathedral is renowned as one of the largest and most significant examples of French High Gothic architecture and sculpture work including the scene of the Mission of the Apostles from which these casts were made. In March of 2025, the casts underwent conservation by Doug Martenson and Celeste Friend as a part of an internship project through the Frances M. Maguire Art Museum. The conservation process included cleaning the casts by removing dirt and grime and revealing a brighter appearance, returning the casts to their original plaster color. These casts were gifted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2009.
