Aengus Buckley painted this fresco for the Academy of Food Marketing at Saint Joseph's University. Fr. Buckley set out to inspire students, food industry leaders, and present and future generations of Americans to develop solutions for the problem of hunger in the world. The fresco compares different reactions to hunger and famine. Despair dominates the starving figures on the left, which shows murder, slavery, theft, and suicide. The figures on the right illustrate how hope and faith may transform need and want into salvation. Between these two groups is a Sower, who encourages food conservation, and Famine, who entreats us to help those in need.
