Sgt. Frederick Whitford – 232 Battalion
Frederick was born in 1883 in the north of England, as was his wife Emma. Three girls, Violet, Emma, and Frances, were born in England before Fred brought his family to Canada, which was in 1913. Four boys followed, Charlie, Bill, Harold, and Jim. Harold and Jim were in the service in WWII. Harold lost his life, serving in the army, and Jim was in the Navy. Fred and his family came to Battleford via Raymore, Sask., and Edmonton. He joined the 232nd Bn. Battleford, becoming Sergeant. He lived for a few years in the Eagle Hills, and then moved to Battleford where he became Chief of Police. Frederick died in 1942.
