Only half of the femur was recovered. The other half had been exposed to the elements and had already crumbled and washed away. A photograph of the taped up fossil can be seen on page 342 of the book, Greg and Doc, Two Souls surrounded by Badlands. The year was 1968. John Harmala Mike McCrate, and Greg Hagenston (pictured) were the fossil hunters. Later, Dr. Hiatt came across our site and commented we left a mess with masking tape bits and newspaper shreds that we did not clean up when we took out the fossils on a stretcher. From then on we always checked our dig sites and make sure we left it clean of any fossil prep material.
