Working with house paint to create brightly colored cartoon-like figures, Joe Light used his paintings to fight the shortcomings of humanity-ignorance, hypocrisy, and injustice. His art is defined by both his steadfast religious convictions and a semblance to pop art.
In this 3D work, Light painted scenes on each side of a cabinet; including the top. The scene painted on the cabinet's door is titled Strange Flower, the ride panel, featuring a bright sun-like figure, is titled Nine Point Star. The back of the cabinet Light depicts a rainbow flower called Color Flower, and on the cabinet's left, he paints the striking face of a black man with fangs and a large bowtie. This scene is titled Adolf Hitler. The top of the cabinet portrays a brightly painted pattern of wavy lines and angled shapes. This scene is called Rainbow=One.Collection

Joe Light (b. 1934-2005)
Joe Light saw himself as a fighter against the shortcomings of humanity and used his paintings as his weapons. Light's paintings are characterized by bold, black lines outlining brightly colored cartoon-like figures. He worked with house paint on wood and also painted on discarded objects. Sometimes, he placed these discarded items directly on top of his paintings, adding what he called "attachments".Created By
