Description

O.L. Samuels is known for creating magical creatures, and Angel is no exception. This life-size sculpture of a female angel stands before you, with her arms down by her side, outstretched in a welcoming, but wary, stance. She holds her bible in her left hand, open to a page, inviting the viewer to listen to her proselytizing. Angel is not a typical angel; she is not dressed all in white with a cherub face. Samuels depicts his angel in his distinctive style, brightly colored, glittery paint and adorned with jewelry and make-up. Angel even dons false eyelashes and gold teeth. O.L. Samuels was a lay minister, and put "the spirit" into everything he created. Most likely, Angel is a substitute minister for him, a missionary of sorts, sharing O.L.'s attitude and message through her unique presence.
