2016.1Description
An untitled painting by Cuban artist Monika Looria (Antella) depicts a woman face and neck surrounded by three fish, executed in blue, green, metallic bronze with black outlines. Spotted by the Gadsden Arts Executive Director Grace Robinson on the museum’‚s trip to Havana, Cuba, in 2015 at an art market, Grace asked a friend visiting tin the following months to try and find the piece for her. Sure enough, the piece was found, purchased, and brought back to Quincy, and presented to the Collection Committee. The Committee and Board of Directors felt it’‚s subject matter and technique were similar to works already in the Collection by Thornton Dial, Sr. and Cuban artist José Fuster.Acquisition
