This turned wood bowl was created by Bob Fincher (1933-2016) using multiple types of wood including Norfolk Island Pine, Cherry, Red Cedar, and African Blackwood. It also features a touch of Turquoise. The piece stands at 15 inches high and 11 inches wide. The body is made of the Pine and Cherry, the rim is made from the Cedar, and the knob at the top is made from the African Blackwood. The piece was featured in Art in Gadsden in 2007 and was awarded second place. All the materials used by Bob in his woodturnings come from sustainable and sound reforestation programs of certified and environmentally sensitive timber merchants. Bob Fincher (1933-2016)
Bob Fincher was a woodturner as well as a fine art painter working primarily in oils and acrylics. Fincher was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, but fell in love with Florida when he enrolled at Florida State University. He created art since he was a child, but gravitated toward wood towards the end of his life. Fincher loved to create his bowls on a lathe and as nonfunctional art objects. He would only use domestic woods that were obtained predominated from North Florida, as a result of road clearings or storm damage. He was proud that no living trees were ever cut for his creative process. Fincher's woodturning won several awards in regional art festivals and exhibitions.Created By
