2018.4.6Description
One of Mr. Eddy's trademark imagery, this work is a half-length portrait showing a darkened red face with brilliantly orange, large abstracted hands. The figure's attire includes a blue feathered collar and a luxurious cape flowing behind it, with matching buttons on the shirt. Its canary-colored sleeves are complemented by the corresponding color of the hat on the figure's head, outlined in thick black similar to its hair and suspenders. The triangle effect of the yellow paint moves the viewer's eye through the composition, allowing for a closer examination of the work's details.Collection

Edward "Mr. Eddy" Mumma (1908-1986)
Edward Mumma was born in Milton, Ohio, and after his wife's death in 1966 retired to Gainesville, Florida. Most of Edward Mumma's work consists of abstract versions of portraits focusing on faces and hands. His portraits almost always depict the same close-up, expressionless round face, with variations of colors, hand placements, and dress. Often, Mumma painted on both sides of his canvas or board paintings, and crudely framed them with scrap wood or plastic.Created By
