Edgar Tolson (1904-1984) As a young boy growing up in rural Kentucky, Edgar Tolson practiced woodcarving as a hobby. It wasn't until a stroke that left him unable to work that he took up woodcarving full time to make ends meet. Around 1964 he joined a local organization focused on promoting local artists that his art was exposed to professionals in the art world. Through these connections his folk art was translated into high art and was exhibited at many shows around the country. Tolson is most famous for his "Fall of Man" cycle depicting various scenes in the Old Testament.
