Boy in Mime PaintEntry/Object ID
2022.4.6Description
This watercolor painting by Eluster Richardson features a boy gazing out at the viewer. His face is painted in white mime paint, drawing attention to his bright brown eyes. Richardson paints a neutral, geometric background behind him consisting of brown, black, and blue tones. His shirt remains unpainted, so the focus remains on his face.
Richardson created his mime series as an extension of his dancer series. This painting features a male model who Richardson invited to sit for him. There is also a female companion painting for this mime painting featuring his daughter, Jasmine.
Eluster said he was drawn to depicting the stark contrast between the white paint and the dark skin. He kept the background loose and abstract to contrast the finer details on the figure's face.Artwork Details
