Description

Created with ink and watercolor, Ron Yrabedra outlines a delicate tree. Yrabedra focuses on a small, zoomed in section of the center of the tree, right where the branches start to sprout leaves. The grains of the bark intertwine with the leaves to create a dynamic perspective of nature.

Ron Yrabedra (1944-2022) Ron Yrabedra was born on January 5, 1944. After getting a Ph.D. at Florida State University he became an Art History professor at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1974. He then became one of the first artists to open a studio in Railroad Square back in 1981 when the area was just the warehouse district. Yrabedra said his studio was like a sanctuary where he went to make order out of life by creating order on his canvas. Although he is color-blind his paintings are vibrant and saturated. His paintings are influenced by his art history background which can be seen by his use of motifs from ancient civilizations in acrylic and gold leaf. He was interested in the way different cultures used the same basic images throughout history. He may have officially retired from teaching in 2008, but he continued to hold public lectures until he died on February 18th, 2022.
