Description

Entirely hand-stitched toddler boy's Eaton suit made from nankeen. Stitched with brown thread that shows through to the front. Coat (a) - armscyes set close together in the back; shaped long sleeves, faux turnback cuffs with slits on the sides. Morning coat style; high waist with curved opening to tails; collarless, double breasted with turnover lapels. 5 self buttons on each side and at top and bottom of tails. Pantaloons (b) - high rise; high waistband that buttons with 2 buttons; 4 braces buttons and 8 on the wide fall; silt in base of pants leg which appears to be intended to stop at lower calf; no pockets; original buttons are gone. (if cloth covered like the coat, were probably replaced by metal buttons; evidence of metal buttons in impressed circles in the sites, slits through which shanks were passed and remains of heavy linen thread used to secure them).
