Description

Muff and neckpiece of ermine; Muff (1) - lined with turquoise wool, faced at the outside with turquoise silk; heavily wadded; heavy white silk cord run through a casing at the opening' cord emerges and is finished with elaborate decorative tassels ending in tufts of fleece; accented with 9 ermine tails. Neckpiece (2) - lined with thin ivory silk; wraps around neck, the narrower end fitted through a slot in the wider rounded end; a snap top probably added later to inner tip of narrow end; the other part is not present; accented with 5 ermine tails and the ends have fancy knotted ivory silk tassels. Box (3a) - black paper covered cylindrical box cushioned with 2 sheets of 1939 Boston Patriot newspaper; yellow edge binding. Lid (3b) - lid with stitches showing; cut corner plate blue printed label reading "Established in 1838 W.M. Shute & Son, importers and manufactures of Ladies Rich Dress Furs...173 and 175 Washington St, Boston."
