Description

Entirely hand-stitched tailcoat made of 2/1 twill, tightly spun Z singles cotton warp; ditto weft seems to be composed of blue and undyed wool carded together, possibly cotton too however it could be warp fibers; looks tweedy. Straight torso. Waist and underarm seams. Double-breasted. Deeply notched lapels. The medium-width collar does not stand extremely high. The button stands with 4 buttonholes each. Long-shaped, slightly bulky sleeves without cuffs or plackets. Lined with alpaca & (speculated to also be) silk and/or cotton cloth. Dull olive-brown sleeves with white cotton. Body interlined with brown glazed cotton, slightly padded chest front. Edges bound with black silk / cotton twill. Part of the lining was removed at the base of the neck (possibly by the seller or dealer to remove a messy section). The interface is red cotton or wool flannel. Black silk velvet collar. Pocket in each tail. Another inside the proper left front, bound with black silk. 6 hunt-motif buttons are on the front and 2 on the back. Silvered copper 2-piece buttons with brass centers featuring a pair of stags, does, boars, and 2 kinds of dogs in relief. Rare, homespun fabric used.
