Description

Entirely hand-stitched mourning bonnet. Deep cylindrical buckram crown, flaring pasteboard brim covered inside and outside with fine black silk satin, and the edge finished with satin. The crown top is covered with satin. The sides have soft, vertical folds of satin, and along the top edge is a wide satin band edged with folded black tulle, arranged in puffs all around, anchored with false knots of satin. A triple bow-knot of black satin ribbon on either side of the front. Folds of satin conceal the joint of the brim and crown. One-inch-wide black satin ribbon ties are attached.
