Journal of William F. Garbutt (1822-1874). He was the son of John H. Garbutt and Mercy Cady. The date written on the front flyleaf is Dec 21, 1838 but the entries reflect 1834-1840. Some entries have a header saying they were written in Garbuttsville. The journal is a mix of school compositions and one or two journal entries.
The back pages of the book were repurposed into an account book in October of 1887 by Mrs. William F. Garbutt (Frances Sophia Emmons Garbutt 1924-1892). She proudly claims to be debt free and lists mortgages and notes held by her, and the year when those notes will have been paid in full. Some notes are local while others are in other states, such as Minnesota and Dakota, in which mortgages were invested for her.Collection
