Description

Exquisite handmade infant’s cap, of fine linen with extremely delicate linen lawn frills. Crown is gathered rather tightly across the top and not at the sides. The brim is round at the bottom, overlaid with a second layer having an inverted scalloped shaping on the inner edge, centered with a magnificent early piece of lace that seems to be Binche c.1700. The top layer is also ornamented with simple sprigs embroidered in linen. Each layer is edged with a delicate sheer lawn flat frill. Casing across back neck with fine braided drawstrings.
