Infant’s “French” cap made of very fine lawn with a heavier linen circular crown, high brim with rounded ‘ears.’ Band of Mechlin? lace across top, another in back ‘seam.’ Fine hemstitching along the hems beside the lace and around the front edge; fine herringbone on the front edge along the back insertion. Fine linen braid ties. The seam allowance along the circle is stitched down very neatly but lacking the great finesse of the rest, suggesting that it is a replacement, possibly for a lace crown.Collection
