Description

Fine linen, machine stitched except for joined selvages and the frills as well as embroidery. All exquisite workmanship. Inscribed name on each: “Libbie C. Wheeler Feb 15, 1863” 1) Chemise has wide scoop neckline, short puffed sleeves finished with sheer organdy frills edged with narrow lace. Front has placket opening with eyelet for button, 2 groups of pintucks on either side. Embroidered vine on neck band, placket, pleats and cuffs. 2) Long, straight drawers set into waistband closed at center back with large mother of pearl button. Open all the way. Vine embroidery on hem beneath 3 bands of pin tucks. Edged with frill like chemise.
