Description

Entirely hand-stitched spencer jacket made of soft apple green and turquoise silk damask, simple branching bud design. Bodice front asymmetrically pieced. Long sleeves tapered to wrist; set well over hand; with large caps set well into narrow back. Surplice opening edged with self ruched band. Two self-buttons near bottom of front. Narrow self-belt clasped in front with unconcealed large brass hook and eye; attached on back section. Small self-bow stitched to belt at the center back. Center back has small box pleat in short ‘skirt’ section. Lined with grey silk. Sleeves have been expanded at seams with inserted matching fabric strips. Two bust darts have been released (not visible in lining, however) and the front may originally have been double-breasted.
