"Child’s box coat, entirely hand stitched dark brown heavily-fulled broadcloth or kersey. Slender sleeves with deep, permanently turned-up cuffs; heavily pad-stitched turnover collar above a wide cape cut straight across the front, with faux second cape. Single breasted, no waist seam; side seam is toward the back; straight, angled pocket flaps in back, no pockets. Body is cut rather full in back with a deep slit at center back hem; self belt tacked at side seam, joined with button and buttonhole in center back; extends around front where two buttons allow an adjustable fit. Buttons are probably wood, fairly thin dome covered with black silk; one on each side of belt and each end of flaps. Sleeves lined with cotton; upper back with greenish camlet [?]. Blue/black checked wool facing on front opening. When buttoned, the belt pulls the back fullness tightly to the body with a degree of awkwardness because the cloth is so stiff. The resulting silhouette is slender with gathered fullness in back. "Collection
