Entirely hand-stitched dress made of blue plaid silk taffeta. Round waist, piped and attached to skirt 'gauged' by being drawn up on a tape. Once had a pocket. Wide, straight neckline with narrow yoke. Short dagged sleeves edged with long dark blue silk fringe. Back opening. Softly shirred front and back bodice laid over white cotton underlining with flat brass hooks and eyes. Boned. Skirt is fully lined with polished brown cotton. Deep hem turned up over the lining; no braid edge. Dress seems to have been reworked with moderate skill from an early 1850s appearance with a slightly pointed waistline. Front bones removed.Collection
