Description

Entirely machine-stitched with hand-stitched finishing dress for a shorter woman made of golden brown silk. Bodice (a) - high round neck. Round waist. Front opening with self buttons. Moderate ‘coat’ sleeves. Darker brown bias satin band applied around cuff with rep frills on either side, same forms deep curve across chest, front and back Gored Skirt (b) - cartridge pleated into greater fullness at back. Deep self flounce at bottom of skirt, heading of satin band near top edge. Separate Apron-like polonaise (c) - poufed back section. Front sections curve up to the center front. Hook closure. Satin band parallels edge of polonaise and ends of bow streamers. Silk fringe edging on polonaise and ends of bow streamers, now a golden olive color, once perhaps matching dress. Self belt (d) - fastens in front- satin band ‘keeper’- bow is speculated to be missing. Attached, large self bow in back, with wide streamers.
