Hand stitched white cotton dress. Bodice has high waist with inset waistband, long sleeves with slight fullness at top and cuffs shaped to the wrist ending in self frill and back opening. Bodice embroidered in white cotton with floral motif. Bottom of skirt has related embroidered motif of arching leafy branch with berry spray, Chenille berries, satin stitch, French knots, and ‘bar’ stitch. The dress was enlarged by adding a narrow piece to the side bodice and a waistband inserted between skirt and bodice. Stitch marks in the skirt top indicate the dress apparently originally had a high, slightly pointed waistline not preserved in the re-modelling. There are stitch marks from a fine long, diagonal tuck ascending from each side near the bottom corners of the front panel inwards toward the waist.Collection
