Description

dress, golden brown silk/wool gauze Entirely hand stitched dress with detachable sleeves. Fine silk warp rainbow printed in tones ranging from golden yellow to dark orange, and fine tan wool weft woven in stripes with reverse twill, in close and widely spaced sett - probably considered a barrege. a) Dress has high waist, wide scoop neckline, puffed sleeves, side gore in skirt which is smooth in front; Back opening with a steel hook and eye at neck and silk draw tape through CB, long enough to tie in front. Bodice lined with sturdy PW white cotton. Skirt unlined except for deep hem facing. Sleeve puff controlled by sets of tapes inside. Sleeves and hem trimmed with diagonally set bronzy tan satin ‘blades’. Same used to delineate triple “V” on bodice and to trim cuffs. 2 small eyelets in back lead to nowhere seemingly. For a short, small woman.b) Pair of long narrow detached sleeves with silk drawstrings in casings at top; bands of bias silk above wrist.
