Description

Dress of subtly beautiful, substantial changeable dark brown/pinkish-tan grosgrain. Round piped waist, high round neckline originally; unusual unpressed pleat or fold worked into shoulder seam; unusual in having the underarm seam so far to the back; no bones and no darts (the opening and waist were remodelled to fit a larger waist, and to have a surplice opening). CF opening with hooks on floating lining. Lined with brown cambric which has evidence of standard form with unboned bodice darts for a much smaller torso. Fairly narrow sleeves shaped with a pair of piped darts to taper to wrist, end has 1/2” self binding. Skirt has narrow pleats all around except in CB which is cartridge pleated. Unlined; no pockets.
