Description

Entirely hand-stitched and unornamented girl’s dress made of very sheer, cobwebby muslin, probably from India. Very high waist with deeply set, short puffed sleeves with fine plied cotton drawstrings in the hems. Set-in waistband of denser cambric. Fairly high and narrow back. Narrow PW linen drawstring tape in the back neck. Low, straight neckline with tiny braided linen drawstring in CF. Narrow skirt with no side gores, but the side of the front is cut at an angle, and the back is on the selvage. A very tight fit across the front, slightly trained. Fullness in the back from layered pleats.
