Description

Teenage girl (?) size dress entirely hand stitched with silk thread, made of pale gray (perhaps logwood dyed lavender originally) crepe 15.5” wide; Turkish? (See below). High waist, the bust has small gathers at the CF waist level. The base of the bodice in back has casings for drawstrings of multiple strands of blue-dyed linen; does not appeared intended to be adjustable. The same provides gathers around the wide scooped neckline. Piped side shoulder and back seams. One hook and eye at the CB top. Bodice lined with white PW cotton. The skirt is close-fitting in front with tight gathers across the CB, made from 4 widths and a pieced strip, no gores. NO CB slit in the skirt! She had to worm into it. The hem has two narrow tucks above 2 small rollios stuffed with grouped cotton string, the hem forms a third rollio; unevenly worked, not surprising on crepe. Long, tubular sleeves with gathers at the top, set slightly back over the shoulder blade. The back is not real narrow altho by gathering in the back it would become narrower. The neck and sleeve ends are fitted with a c1900 machine embroidered net ‘lace.’ The sleeve ends were shortened by turning up a deep hem. Neatly made but not stylish entirely.
