Description

Infant’s long dress, entirely hand stitched fine white cotton. High set-in waistband of satin-stitch geometric flowers. Bodice front has 4 bands of insertion placed top to bottom at alternating diagonals, formed of paired rows of tiny tape ‘ricrac’. Single row on either edge of waistband. Short, puffed sleeves with tiny drawstring casings in ends; winglike flaps reach around sleeves, tips closing over tops with now-lost button or another fastener. Tiny drawstring casings in neck. Facing of waistband forms casing for inserted ribbon drawstring. Skirt plain, fashionably gored at sides. Bottom has 6 rows of pin tucks on either side of hardanger-type embroidered sheer insertion; hem formed of small faced VanDyke's.
