Description

Entirely hand-stitched boy’s dress made of fine cream cotton printed with small once-purple polka dots centered with 4 tiny red circles with white centers. The bodice gathered into a wide-bound neckline and inset waistband. Short, full skirt gathered into the bottom of the waistband. Hooks at neck and waist. Short, widely flaring raglan sleeves. The fullness of the sleeves are controlled near the neck by 2 rows of shirring. Unlined Note attached by small brass safety pin reads: “Dress worn by my father Frank M. Spofford - About 1856.”
