Description

Entirely hand-stitched child’s dress with matching knee pants made of tan cotton plaid with brown and orange cross stripes. Heavily patched and re-patched with the same fabric on the knees and crotch, and a similar one on the dress across the waist, elbows, and sleeve ends. Dress (a) - smooth bodice. Short. Flaring skirt; opens down the front and closes with 10 green calico buttons, alternating between checkered and polka dot patterns. The neckline is lower at the opening, suggesting that is the front, however, the sleeves are set in facing the other way. The sleeves are the ‘coat’ type, finished with a bias band at the cuff, possibly a repair. (If the sleeves were ever turned, it does not show). Pants (b) - standard. Open on each side. Gathered slightly into the waistband with 3 buttonholes on each side. Knee length. Bias facing inside hem.
