Description

Entirely hand-stitched child’s three-piece ensemble made of red and black checked silk foulard cut on the bias and trimmed with bands of narrow black velvet ribbon. Dress (a) - smooth, loose, unshaped drop-waist bodice and short, very full skirt. Deep, wide scoop neckline, short wide sleeves. Back opening, tiny black swirl-back glass buttons, cone shaped. Black silk chain stitch outline of button stand. Ribbon trim on sleeves and hem. Bodice lined with white glazed cotton. Possibly worn with fine white blouse. Jacket (b) - high round neck, peplum or Basque. Long, full sleeves gathered into narrow cuffs. Front opening matching that of the dress. Trimmed on cuffs and hem. Body lined with dark pink glazed cotton. Circular Wrist-Length Cape (c) - lined with red silk. Fastened at high round neck with a decorative swirl-back black glass button. Ribbon trim around perimeter.
