Paper fan in presentation box.
1) fan has grisaille painted leaf with touches of silver, yellow, blue, green and purple; 20 figures in domestic interior. Faces are slips of painted ivory; clothes are bits of colorful silk with painted details. Reverse side appears to be a crepey cloth, with roses rendered as painted outlines with bright blue accents. Black lacquered sticks with silver leaf [?] painted designs. Wavy brass hanging loop and original delicate double tassel of fine black silk. A 1900-1925 narrow black velvet ribbon loop was attached to it also.
2) box is black lacquered wood, cheap tin hinges and hook closure. Decorated with gold painted flourishes on the front, and two men on the lid. Lined with papery red silk [?]; retains original fitted compartment. The inner lid has a colorful painted bird in a peony bower."Collection
