G2011.066Description
Entirely hand-stitched infant long gown made of fine white lawn, semi sheer; embroidered with Ayreshire style eyelet work. Fairly high waist made as a casing for a 1" silk ribbon, still present. The ribbon is now a pale cream color, with delicate brocade geometric design. The long, somewhat narrow skirt exhibits no seams except near the hem; apparently a seam was worked into both of the long lines of embroidery down each side front. The hem double-scalloped with eyelet borders and floral sprays; the bodice has a small floral motif with triangular center panel, and a field of eyelets. Edging across the neck, waist, and panel made of rows of French knots. Short raglan sleeves with triangular panel on top.Collection
