Description

Cape made from an 1860s machine-woven paisley type shawl; usual coloring; black with reds and oranges. Well-matched use of pattern suggestive of current Art Nouveau taste. Shaped to the shoulders, rich but neat folds. Rounded collar with 3 notches in the hem, made to stand up way from the shoulders if desired. Closed in front with 3 shaped straps and 3 pairs of MOP shank buttons with cut steel centers. Wadded and lined with what is now a pale melon-pink cotton sateen.
