Hat box and bonnet, Quaker 1) The bonnet is covered with black silk rep and the brim lined with cream colored lustring. The crown is backed with buckram and the brim is covered pasteboard; hand sewn. Apparently original thin black silk ribbon bonnet ties. The crown is fitted with a box pleat on the top with two pleats on either side; gathered around base and trimmed with a small, flat bow of thin black silk ribbon
.2) Hat box hand made of pasteboard covered with wallpaper. Unlined. Pattern is green rose and freesia vine upon lacy waving ribbon, alternating with clumps of white roses upon horizontal gray and brown ‘ikat’ striped ground. Blue and green spot border around lid rim. String handle mid way up the side of the box. “10 1/2 - 16” written in red on bottom (the size).
Both items seem appropriately dated to 1850."
