Description

Leghorn straw bonnet edged with darker, fine straw cord-effect braid. Form flares around face, sits back on head. Trimmed with wide brocaded white silk ribbon with pink edges and borders, forming loops with streamers on either side. On the proper left, artificial pink wild roses and pale green foliage are worked into the loops. Brim is faced with ivory (faded pink?) silk, rimmed inside with frills of blonde lace mingled with small pink flowers and a single blown-glass red berry. Buckram bavolet partially covered with ribbon and edged with darker straw braid. Lined with loose buckram. No labels or marks. Red, blue and cream plaid silk ribbon ties, short, that appear to be add ons although they may be period ribbon. They are pieced and coming apart at the seam.
