Description

Partly machine-stitched 2-piece dress made of natural / ecru silk. Circle and line pattern, overlaid with a very fine natural / ecru gauze. Pink moire ribbon details have been added. Bodice (a) - has front hook/eye closure, a straight front waist and a pointed back waist. The neckline has a small gauze ruffle and the yoke has a wide gauze ruffle edged with two narrow bands of pink ribbons. The back has a large pink moire bow with a trailing piece that has a hook closure at the tip. It is unknown how this was used or where it was attached to. The three-quarter sleeves have a shoulder puff of gauze. There is boning and an attached self-belt inside. The inside is lined with brown cambric. Skirt (b) - flat front, a slight train, and a sewn gather part way down the back to aid in creating a lower bustle shape. The gauze overlay has a gauze ruffled hem with two narrow bands of pink moire ribbon at the edge of the ruffle. A wide pink moire ribbon is sewn to the waistline to create a belted look. The waist has hook/eye closure. One pink ribbon bow is sewn to the body of the skirt and it appears as if there was one more that is now missing. The skirt is lined with a natural colored fabric. The underside of the bottom hem has an extra row of the silk that has an elaborate scalloped edge and was meant to peak out from beneath the outer hem.
