Description

Two piece reception gown of cream colored silk with satin stripes of varying widths, brocaded design of leaf sprays, and scattered floral motifs (nosegays) in cream and pink. Bodice - Fitted, boned bodice cut to points at front and back, with peplum added over the hips and pleated at center back, lacing up the front to deep, square neckline. Narrow elbow-length sleeves. Neckline and sleeves trimmed with heavy double frill of cream Binche-like lace, held at center with heavy pink cording. Fabric dates to 1770-80, probably closer to 1780. Original back seams, peplum on the back was attached with chainstitch machine (post 1855), cording and lace not original (19th century or later); has been reworked several times SKIRT IS MISSING FROM DONATION (may be located by donor and brought to GCVM at later date)
