Description

"Cotton handkerchief with 3 blue selvage threads in each side, narrow hand stitched hems. Red copperplate print entitled “The Travellers New Guide through the principal Direct Roads of England and Wales with the Distances from Town to Town in Measured Miles.” It shows the map with ‘roads’ emanating from London to distant points, with a variety of ships afloat in the seas around. Decorative border all around, and a table of “Explanation.” On the hem we see printed “No. 17[?]” and a price? of 11/16. Early mend with linen thread on the road to Yarmouth.24” long, 26” wide.NB: the UK has always used miles, not kilometers. This was intended for export (to here, most likely)."
