Pelerine

Name/Title

Pelerine

Entry/Object ID

G2004.124

Description

Pelerine made of white cotton bobbinet, shaped to fit across wide sleeves. The border was embroidered in an outline of a running sweet-pea vine with lace-like fillings. Edged all around with narrow, very simple lace edging. Second layer forms matching collar that makes point on shoulders and descends in back half way to the hem of the under layer. Each has a border of running flowers and leaves that appears to be the inspiration for the ‘ad-lib’ border worked by Hannah Gowan on No. 2004.125. The field is sprinkled with tiny stars or leaflets. It seems girl-sized. May not be for a girl but it seems a bit constricted for adult wear.
