Description

Peasants from Caux, a coastal region of Normandy in NW France. One is dressed more in mainline fashion in a full length brown pelisse with four tiers of self frills around the hem and as puffs topping long, narrow sleeves. Tightly frilled white collar, blue gloves and red cashmere shawl. However she wears a locally popular style of headdress, tall and pointed. Her friend wears regional dress, a calf length red skirt with white apron. A blue corset over a red vest. but white long sleeves. White stockings, black shoes, high gold necklace close to the throat with a descending chain carrying a small cross.
